Thai Citizens Now Able To Renew Thai ID Cards At Thai Embassies Overseas

Thais residing overseas are now able to renew Thai ID cards at Thai embassies overseas without having to return to Thailand.

Since an MoU was signed in March between Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit, under which both sides agreed to cooperate in renewing passports of Thai expats, the service has now been launched in Los Angeles.

Starting September 13th, The Royal Thai Consulate in Los Angeles has been authorized to issue new IDs to Thai nationals seeking to replace those lost or damaged. No fees will be charged for expired IDs, but a 1 dollar fee will be charged for lost or damaged IDs. However, those seeking to make their I.D. cards for the first time are not allowed to do so.

The Thai Consulate-General in Los Angeles was the first to offer this service with Thai ID cards as it is better equipped with necessary machines and staff than other consulates.

French Embassy Travel Warnings

The French Embassy in Bangkok is issuing travel warnings for its citizens in Thailand, recommending against all but essential travel to flood-hit areas.

According to a statement on the embassy’s website, French citizens are advised to avoid travelling to affected provinces such as Phitsanulok, Phichit, Prachinburi and Sakaeo.

A series of particularly strong seasonal storms with heavy rainfall have produced extensive flooding throughout many provinces in Thailand.

It further stated that the flooding has not hampered transportation, and essential services in the affected regions are open to the public as usual.

On Friday 21 September, French embassies and schools will be closed in 20 countries following the publication by a French weekly of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.

500 Muslims Protest At US Embassy In Bangkok Thailand

Over 500 Muslims protest at US Embassy in Bangkok on Tuesday amidst pouring rain to protest a controversial American film, which is deemed insulting to Islam.

The protesters expressed their anger over the movie called "Innocence of Muslims," mocking the Prophet Mohammad. Muslims in many countries throughout the world also demonstrate against the film at US consulates and embassies. Normally the Thai government do not allow Muslims Protest at the US Embassy.

The protest leader demanded the US to oversee the matter and stop the dissemination of the movie. They also asked for prosecution of the movie producer. The demonstrators tried to bring down the American flag and burn it, but authorities had warned them the move is against the law.

U.S. Embassy In Bangkok Closes In Fear Of Islam Protests

The U.S. Embassy in Bangkok announced it will be closed to the public at noon today, in anticipation of planned protests over a controversial film made in the US which is deemed insulting to Islam.

According to the Embassy’s website, the Royal Thai Police has informed consular personnel that a demonstration involving nearly 500 protesters is reportedly planned to be held on Wireless Road in front of the Embassy beginning between 1 PM and 2 PM today. Demonstrators are expected to assemble at Lumpini Park before marching to the Embassy.

The Embassy will offer its services until noon before sending non-essential personnel home. Visa and citizen services appointments scheduled for this afternoon have been cancelled and rescheduled for later dates.

The U.S. Embassy in Bangkok has updated its security warning U.S. citizens in Thailand.

Following a spate of attacks and protests worldwide over a film made in the US deemed insulting to Islam.

According to the emergency message issued by the embassy, U.S. citizens are encouraged to maintain a heightened awareness and to keep a low profile when out in public, after four American personnel, including Ambassador Chris Stevens, were killed in Benghazi, Libya, last week. New Lao and Indonesian Ambassadors in Thailand

The newly-appointed Indonesian ambassadors in Thailand met with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra today in a move to further solidify bilateral ties.

Ms Yingluck welcomed Lao Ambassador to Thailand, His Excellency Mr. Lee Boonkham, during his visit this afternoon, while reiterating the stance set by his predecessor that Laos’ security is considered Thailand’s security. The premier said she looks forward to strengthening the long-standing bilateral relations as well as improving regional cooperation.

Ms Yingluck is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with her Lao counterpart on June 2.
