New Zealand will donate NZ$100,000 (THB2.35 million) to support the response to Thailand’s devastating floods, the New Zealand Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand, Bede Corry, has announced.

The Ambassador informed Thailand’s Foreign Minister, Dr Surapong Tovichachaikul, of the donation during the Ambassador’s introductory meeting with the Minister earlier this week.

“As a close friend of Thailand, New Zealand is deeply saddened by the loss of life and damage to property as a result of the floods” Ambassador Corry said

“We want to do what we can to help. New Zealand will direct its contribution to the Thai Red Cross to help support the ongoing response to the floods.

“We well remember how quickly and generously the Thai Government responded to the Christchurch earthquake earlier this year, and our contribution to flood relief is made in that same spirit of solidarity,” the Ambassador said.
